Tentative Railroad Labor Deal Reached

President Biden calls it a “big win.”

A handshake deal was reached on Thursday morning between unions and major railroads. President Biden’s administration had held negotiation discussions for 20 hours in an effort to avoid a strike.

The president stated the tentative agreement is “an important win for our economy and the American people.” He continued, “It is a win for tens of thousands of rail workers who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to ensure that America’s families and communities got deliveries of what have kept us going during these difficult years.”

President Biden added, “These rail workers will get better pay, improved working conditions, and peace of mind around their health care costs: all hard-earned. The agreement is also a victory for railway companies who will be able to retain and recruit more workers for an industry that will continue to be part of the backbone of the American economy for decades to come.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration as they seek to secure the labor agreement.
  • For the officials of the railroads and the unions as they consider the details of the deal.
  • For all who are trying to avert a railroad shutdown and disruption of nationwide freight transport.
